Abstract:

The essay analyzes the relationship between the Lucchese painter Giovan Domenico Lombardi and the Spada family starting from the unpublished documents preserved in Archivio di Stato in Lucca. These relationships were particularly important from 1714 to 1724 when Cardinal Orazio Filippo Spada was bishop of Osimo (Ancona), where Lombardi sent a certain number of paintings. These works, all depicting religious subjects, were made both for the church of San Giuseppe da Copertino and for the duomo dedicated to San Leopardo.
